Home court of a different kind for Nick Kyrgios as Park Takeover rolls into town
We know Nick Kyrgios as Wimbledon finalist and doubles Australian Open Champion but tonight he swapped the grass and clay for hardwood. Bringing the king of the court event to Canberra’s Bucket Warehouse in Mitchell. You couldn't wipe the smile off everyone's faces as they got to witness and in some cases jump on the court with the tennis great and his band of Australia’s best pickup ballers. Mitch Lang, Owen Foxwell, Ajak Monychol to name a few.
Nick has been quoted as saying he could have very easily gone down the path of being a professional basketballer when deciding his future as a kid so it’s no surprise his passion for the game has brought him on a tour of the country playing and supporting the community of park and street ball.
His basketball highlight reel is nearly as impressive and his tennis, as a NBL celebrity match MVP Nick holds his own on both courts. Even putting his money where his mouth is with the next generation of aspiring athletes coming out of Canberra, $1K on the line.
Vibes were high with the showdown bringing a community together and all love from the fans despite some giving the famous trash-talker some light hearted banter. Jeers of “stick to tennis!” would resonate from the courtside as he passed.
Ultimately Nick’s team went down and lost his bet and he promptly paid $1000 to the young guns to split. Awesome night, here’s what we saw on Friday 15th May 2026 at the Park Takeover.
